You Asked For It

Do you really want what you're asking for? Have you ever asked for something only to be like, "Nah, I don't want it."? I have. I've ordered food that I didn't really want. I've bought things I really didn't like. You've probably got a few things in your mind now, too.

Have you ever prayed and asked God for something, but then decided that you didn't want it? You know, like your job that you prayed and cried for and had errybody you know praying for it come through. It did. And now, you don't want it. You don't even like it. A year ago, you were calling it a blessing. What happened?

You lost focus. You became ungrateful. You forgot just how much you moaned and cried to get your job. You forgot about how much you said it would do for you. How much you needed it. Wait. That's not you? Riiiight. Ok. You don't have to be honest about this, but I will.

That was my story. I prayed for the job. Got the job. Then I proceeded to become ungrateful and unthankful. My attitude sucked. And my work? Let's just say yuck to the quality of some of my work. So, how did I get out of this funk?

Notice I said the funk and not the job. How did I get out? Well, I prayed some more. But this time, I listened and did what God said. Gee, imagine that. Hearing and doing. (James 1.22) I asked God to help me fix my attitude before it was too late. And He did. That's why you get the best of me now. And let's thank God for that, because back in the day, I was a mess!

You asked for your job, your answer, your car, your house, your apartment, your condo, your kids (yep, I went there), your spouse (and I went there, too), your business, your money, your opportunity, your shot, your chance, and now you've got your answer. What are you supposed to do with your answers? Treat it / them just like you did when you were so excited about 'em.

In the future, think long and hard about what you're asking for, because you just might get it. And if you're not ready for it, don't ask for it. Better yet, combine your asking time and getting ready time. So when it comes, you can confidently say, I asked for it...and I'm ready.
