The Praise of Men

In the bible, John 12.43 says, For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. John's talking about the religious leaders. Some of them believed Jesus Christ was God in the flesh and began following him, but they were afraid to publicly acknowledge Him, because they'd be put of of the synagogue and because of how it would look to their peers.

Sometimes, we all suffer from succumbing to desiring praise from people more than we want anything else. Especially the praise of God. That, my friend, is a recipe for disaster. Praise from people is fast and fleeting. People will switch up on you. They'll praise you one minute and within seconds, that same person will be cursing you and your existence. But God won't act like that.

Even if you don't know Him or like Him or acknowledge Him, that's not who He is to you or for you. He loves you. He cares for you. He's on your side. Even when it doesn't or hasn't seemed or felt like it. He wants you to win. Just keep in mind that winning often looks a little differently to God than it does to us.

Don't seek the praise of people. You'll be rockin' and reelin', back and forth like a wave in the ocean if you do. Human beings are uneven people. God is consistent. Seek God's praise. How? I'm glad you asked. Here's a great place to start:

In John 22.37-39 Jesus says, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and intelligence.’ This is the most important, the first on any list. But there is a second to set alongside it: ‘Love others as well as you love yourself.’

Love God. Love people as well and as much as you love yourself.

Find out what pleases God and do those things. If you receive praise from people, be thankful and accept it. But don't seek praise from people. That will leave you feeling empty and chasing air.

Seek God's praise. That will fill you up to overflowing.
