The Studio Will Explode

That's part of the title of an article I just read about Saturday Night Live's (SNL) Kenan Thompson written by Maxwell Strachan for HuffPost. The full title: 'If You Take Out Kenan Thompson, The Studio Will Explode'. Now that's an attention grabbing title. One that could bring on lots of pressure for most of us. But not Thompson. He's as cool as the other side of the pillow (Shout out to the late Stewart Scott!).

It's not his cool and calm demeanor that caught my attention as I read the piece. It was that quote. In essence, Kenan Thompson is the glue that holds everything together. He's the glue and much more. Here's what SNL creator Lorne Michaels said about him: "If you were designing the person perfect for SNL, most of the components would look like Kenan." What a great compliment. Let me as you a question: Does anyone feel that way about you?

No, this is not a competition between you and Kenan. It's just something to consider as you move forward in life, work, and business. Are you the perfect person for your role? Not perfect in your behavior, but are you just the right fit? Let's go deeper. Are you using, operating, walking in your gift and calling? Your purpose.

If you aren't, there will be no studio explosions. But, if you are, the studio as it were, will blow up like nitro if you're taken out of it!

Today, I'm calling you higher. Even if you're already soaring high, there are higher heights for you to attain. One of them is to reach back down and bring someone else up with you. Tell them, "Today is the day that you fly higher!"

Kenan Thompson has had almost 15 years on SNL, because he's put the work in to be the best. To help others along the way. To not take himself so seriously. To hone his craft. To get good.

Will the studio ever explode if you're taken out of it? I don't know. I do know this: If you'll put the work in to get good, you'll be good. Like Kenan Thompson, you'll be a significant part of what you do. So get good. Be good to people. And it'll be all good.

Now go and blow up your studio real good!
